Are Car Gadgets Dangerous?

Posted in Computers and Technology on April 26th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

Everyone will know that here in the UK you are not able to do anything whilst driving your car from texting to tweeting and using facebook but if this is true why are we allowed to sit and stare at a Sat Nav when we are driving? Surely this is just as bad as doing the other things on the list?

The Dangers

The biggest danger seems to come when people are very lost and are spending more time on the Sat Nav screen than the roads. This puts you at some serious risk and it is not just you that you must think about, what about the other drivers and families around you. The best piece of advice is to pull over if you are lost and have a look at the screen or of course better yet if you are travelling with someone in the passenger seat get them to take a look!

Easier

Of course having a Sat Nav in the car is going to make your life easier and this is the same for other gadgets like the one that allows you to play your iPod in the car and things like this but this doesn’t mean that you should always rely on them. The best thing to do is to always rely on your instincts and not just the gadgets, the instincts will always be better. If you do have a crash because you were not paying attention  you will be looking at your next car from the viewpoint of someone whtat has bad credit car finance and you will need bad credit car loans.

Gap insurance will help you out on something like this but the best advice that I can personally give you is never take your eyes off of the road under any circumstances.

People Forget These Car Gadgets

Posted in Computers and Technology on March 27th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

There are so many cool car gadgets out there that people use every single day that people just seem to take granted of. How about a look at the best ones out there.

The iPod Charger/ Player

The first thing I do when I step into my Audi Q5 is to plug my pod into the speakers and select shuffle. This is one of the best ways to listen to really decent music without having to listen to the boring adverts that we face everyday when listening to the normal radio stations.

Electric Windows

What on earth would we do without those electric windows? Can you imagine keep having to pull over on those hot summer days and having to get out of the car and wind down all of the windows manually! The worst thing about these windows is what happens when they break and they are halfway down, there are no manual controls.

Cup Holders

It has been announced that a cup holder is one of the most dangerous gadgets to have in the car but without them there would be plenty of spillages. We would be spilling drinks left, right and centre if it wasn’t for these, especially the Americans and the people in those fancy Audi TT Roadster.

Parking Sensors

These lovely things are often take advantage of when reversing into a parking space. If you this installed in the back of your car then the chances are that when you are reversing into a space you do not bother looking in the correct way. Well if your cheap Audi parking sensors break and you smash up your car you cant blame anyone other than yourself.

Of course there are many other gadgets out there for the car that people really do love taking for granted but those were just some of the ones that a lot of people have, with the exception of the parking sensors of course. So there you have it, the next time you are operating a gadget in your car, do not take it for granted.

The Sat Nav Verdict

Posted in Personal Tech on February 25th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

Dad has just bought a new Sat Nav and I am going to take you through the positives and negatives. He was perhaps a bit lucky as he managed to pick it up through his company, we have had several problems with the product though.

The product is a brilliant idea for anyone who is bored of getting out a map at every corner or perhaps on the verge of a divorce because the wife is still giving out the wrong directions. There are a couple of times that the Sat Nav took us in the wrong direction and then decided that it was out fault so told us to turn around post haste. There has even been an instance in which it attempted to lead us onto a road that wasn’t there.

Another issue with the product is that it is being used for the simplest of trips and because you are busy waiting for the voice to say “turn left” or “speed camera” it actually ends up taking longer than it would without it. I

On the other hand the product can come in very useful if you purchase one that can be used in other countries. Sometimes it can be nice to hear directions from a person who speaks english when you are abroad and providing it points you in the right direction it can be useful for that.

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. It is not always necesscary to take out that extra iPhone insurance

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Make Sure You Don’t Lose Out When Your Gagdets Go Wrong

Posted in Computers and Technology on February 12th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

Technology these days to amazing, no question about it. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However, what happens when a part inside breaks? In some cases, the costs to repair the gadgets can be more than you initially paid for them. A large number of cases is never down to the user, normally it’s because the product wasn’t made correctly to begin with. Although the Xbox 360 has been proven to be the best console in this latest console generation, it does have one problem with it. The red rings. Any Xbox 360 owner will know that once you have the three red rings, you might aswell just hand over your bank details to Microsoft. Unless you are still within your warranty you are looking at paying at least 50 to have to send it off to be repaired for a problem that should not have been there in the first place.

It always used to be a rare occurence if your N64 or Playstation 1 broke, however, we are still seeing the flow of broken Xbox’s, but we are also seeing Playstation 3’s and Nitendo Wii’s being sent away to be fixed. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.

There is a solution to this and it comes from gadget insurance. This can be purchased to cover up to five of any gadgets you can think of for just under 20 a month. Although this seems a lot it is cheaper than having to go out and pay for repairs to your products. The primary reason is because the cost to repair gadgets, if you dropped your iPhone, you would get given a 100 pound repair bill. So if you think about it, having to 20 pound each month to protect your 5 gadgets is not as pad as having to pay 100 pound to repair something that you can break over and over again. Also, for fixing items like a Nintendo Wii, they tend to charge you more money than you actually paid for the console to begin with.

You are not required to insure 5 items if you don’t want to, you can simply pay for Xbox 360 Insurance by itself. Unfortunately, many companies that offer home emergency insurance policies don’t cover your gadgets like iPods and gaming consoles.

Mobile Phones Abroad

Posted in Computers and Technology on January 27th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

about taking your mobile phone with you? The first thing I would say is don’t even bother and the second is that if you are then make sure you have phone insurance.

Reasons

One of the main reasons that you should not be taking a phone with you is because you are going away to relax not to work or stare at a phonescreen, think of the people around you. The thing is if you take your mobile with you then you are going to be calling the people that you miss because they are there on the phone to be called. The thing is it is still going to be there when you get back so if you are really that desperate to use a phone just use a pay phone. It will be cheaper than making the payment by your own mobile phone.

Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. This is even more so for phones such as the iPhone as they will charge you a lot of money for using the internet even if it is just a mistake.

Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. Another thing is that each time that you text it is likely to cost you a lot of money too.

One of the main things that you can learn from this is that taking the phone with you is just not worth all of the hassle. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into cheap car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are covered.

So there it is

Back To School For Santa

Posted in Computers and Technology on January 27th, 2010 by contributor – Be the first to comment

Yes that’s right, because its almost that time of year where hundreds people get into those big red suits to help kids to have a great Christmas it has been noticed that here in the UK the majority of men going for the job are of the older generation.

With all of the recent gadgets that are around these Santas are going to need a lot of training so they know what all of the kids are actually talking about when they are asking around.

Well this is where PC World has stepped in to help out all of the Santa’s. Although I am not sure PC World are the best guys for this as whenever I have popped in they seem to know a lot about PCs but nothing about game consoles and the like and they don’t even stock the most recent releases on the consoles!

In theory this is in place to teach the santas about all of the newest gadgets that are out like the Xbox 360 and others such things. To be honest I do not think it is necessary to do this at all. I do not a kid that sees Santa that knows hte exact specs od any of these things? It all seems to me like a bit of a waste of time as they could learn it themselves.

The one thing that these Santa’s are not being told is how much these items cost to replace so it is well worth looking into getting some gadget insurance or at the very least something like cheap laptop insurance or even cheap mobile phone insurance or you could find a very unhappy kid come January.

Make sure that if your Santa isnt trained in the new pieces of tech that you just leave.

So make sure that this year when you are going to see Santa that he knows exactly what your kid is on about or you could find yourself in a spot of trouble!
